'In my eyes' - Former Liverpool defender clears up transfer rumours with 'money' claim

Former Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever has explained why he has no regrets over his move to Merseyside.

The versatile defender signed for the Reds in the summer of 2018 from Ajax as a 16-year-old. During his time at Anfield, Hoever became the third youngest player in the club’s history with an appearance in the FA Cup in 2019.

Tipped for a bright future at Liverpool, he would go on to make just four senior appearances for the Reds before being sold to Wolves in 2020. Liverpool received an initial sum of £9million for the young Dutchman with a further £4.5m in add-ons, as well as including a 15% sell-on clause.

However, his career has stalled since his move to Molineux. After 25 appearances across two seasons, Hoever moved to PSV Eindhoven on loan this summer.

He has since reflected on his initial decision to move to Liverpool four years ago. The defender, who can play at either centre-back or right-back, says that he has no regrets over his move to Merseyside.

“Liverpool came up with the best plan in my eyes,” Hoever told ESPN . “Everyone thinks it was about the money, but I felt they valued me more at Liverpool than at Ajax at the time.”
