In Mehrauli, the rich and poor have different concerns but a common complaint

Just five days ahead of the Delhi assembly polls, Naresh Yadav, the sitting MLA from Mehrauli, quit AAP over “corruption in the party” only to join the BJP a few hours later. Denied a ticket this year, Yadav claimed in his resignation letter that the people of his constituency had urged him to leave AAP which had “several dishonest people joining its ranks”.

The residents of Bandhu camp, a jhuggi jhopdi cluster, want potable water in their homes. They want the authorities to cover the open sewage pipes that run through the locality and the garbage dumps to be removed.

At Vasant Kunj’s Pocket 7, a gated neighbourhood minutes away from Bandhu camp, the issues are different. While some don’t want to see any cattle in and around their locality, others want the freebie culture to stop.

But frustration over the official response to their concerns, however different in nature, unite voters from both the areas.
