'Improvements needed' at Lanarkshire aesthetics clinic say inspectors

A Lanarkshire aesthetics clinic has been told to do better after an inspection by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS).

Based in East Kilbride's East Mains area, Arty Aesthetics is a private independent aesthetics clinic.

It provides a range of non-surgical aesthetic treatments and procedures, including anti-wrinkle and dermal filler injections, and advanced skincare treatments.

The service is led by a nursing practitioner and is based in a separate annex at a residential address.

Following an announced inspection HIS recently published a report grading the clinic.

The report states: "The focus of our inspections is to ensure each service is person-centred, safe and well led.

"Therefore, we only evaluate the service against key quality indicators which apply across all services.

"However, depending on the scope and nature of the service, we may look at additional quality indicators."

Arty Aesthetics were given a satisfactory and two unsatisfactory gradings.

Inspectors say in the report: "A system must be introduced to manage risk effectively. A structured process of audits should be carried out and reviewed regularly.

"The provider must develop the patient care records further to include a documented consultation process and treatment plan.

"Patient information should be documented. GP and emergency contact details should be requested from patients and documented."

The report also states that a "quality improvement plan should be developed".

However, the clinic was also praised for positive practices in place, along with the areas for improvement.

"The service’s small number of patients were able to contact the practitioner at any time over the phone. Patients felt supported and that they were given time to reach decisions about their treatment," the report went on.

"The environment was clean and well maintained with an appropriate clinical waste contract in place."

Inspectors added: "The service kept up to date with changes in the aesthetics industry, legislation and best practice guidance through its membership with local forums and national organisations."
