'Impossible job' - Karl Robinson reflects on short-lived Leeds United spell

Karl Robinson has reflected on his ill-fated spell as part of the Leeds United coaching staff.

The former Oxford boss was brought into the set-up to assist Sam Allardyce for the final four games of the season.

But the gamble by the Whites' board failed to pay off with only one point garnered from a possible 12. They eventually ended up finishing five points adrift of safety. Reflecting on his short-lived stint in West Yorkshire, he told talkSPORT: "It was almost an impossible job, but we all have that ego going in and plotting a miracle.

"That’s not naivety or stupidity - we thought we could do it even though we knew it’d be so difficult.

"I was playing golf and I got a phone call from the gaffer (Allardyce) to say what are you doing? I said I was playing golf. He said can you get yourself up to Leeds tonight. He said he was going in for the last four games of the season.

"I actually think I said ‘are you mad?’ He said get yourself up here tonight and we’ll have a conversation. I got in my car and drove to Yorkshire."

Allardyce has since left Elland Road and the search is on for his successor.

Upon his exit, he said: "It has been an honour to manage Leeds United, a great club with an incredible fan base, who deserve to be in the Premier League. At this stage in my career I am not sure taking on this challenge, which is potentially a long-term project, is something I could commit to, but I wish the club every success for the future and hope the club returns to the Premier League, where they belong."
