Irish people are heading to Canada in large droves, especially as the warm summer weather approaches.
Unlike countries such as Australia, a person's need for a tourist visa to Canada depends on the length of their stay. Irish tourists who don't exceed 90 days in the North American nation will not need to obtain a tourist visa ahead of their travels.
However, tourists who are exempt from visas still need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation in order to visit Canada. The entry requirement is linked to a person's passport for up to five years or the date of a passport's expiration, whichever comes first.

Luckily, people can apply for an Electric Travel Authorisation at a reduced cost. Dual citizens of Canada and Ireland are not eligible for an ETA as the process was set up to screen foreign visitors entering the country.
The application process for tourists securing their ETA takes minutes and can be completed via the Government of Canada's official website. People need a credit card, email address and a valid passport in order to apply.
It is recommended that people apply for their ETA ahead of their flight to Canada as they are not automatically processed. People who arrive at the airport without applying for the entry requirement ahead of time should expect delays and may not be able to board their flight.
