Impeachment proceedings coming to the Senate on March 21st

For the first time since 1888, the Kentucky Senate is anticipated to stand in trial. This will take place on March 21st  and 22nd. Articles of impeachment for Commonwealth’s Attorney Ronnie Lee Goldy Junior came to the Senate from the House. The prosecutor, who served Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, and Rowan counties, resigned at the end of February. He faces accusations of providing favors for a defendant in exchange for nude photos. Lexington Senator Reggie Thomas said Senate action would carry office-holder implications.

“The General Assembly has taken the position that because of the alleged, I want to emphasize alleged acts here. If established we want to preclude that individual from having any ability to seek public office in the future,” said Goldy.

Thomas will serve on a seven-member committee. It will hear all the evidence and, upon completion, present recommendations to the full Senate. The Senate could accept the recommendations, reject them, or proceed to a full trial. The vote of two-thirds of the senators present would be necessary to remove the officeholder.
