In various cities across the United States, the effects of President Donald Trump's immigration policies are being felt in schools, causing anxiety among parents and students. While some incidents, like immigration raids at schools, have turned out to be hoaxes, the fear and uncertainty persist.

Changes in immigration policies have led to rising concerns among immigrant families, even those with legal status. In some cases, misinformation has caused panic, such as in Fresno, California, where rumors of immigration raids at schools have resulted in decreased attendance.

Denver Public Schools recently sued the Department of Homeland Security, alleging interference with the education of migrant children in their care. The lawsuit highlighted the impact of immigration raids on school attendance and the resources required to support affected families.

Conservative lawmakers in states like Oklahoma and Tennessee have proposed measures that could restrict access to public education for children without legal status. These proposals have sparked debates about the rights of all children to receive an education, regardless of their immigration status.

Research has shown that immigration enforcement activities, such as raids and police involvement, can negatively affect academic performance for students, including those who are U.S. citizens. Lower attendance rates and enrollment drops among Hispanic students have been observed in areas where immigration enforcement is prevalent.

Amidst the uncertainty and fear, school districts are working to support immigrant families by providing information on their rights and connecting them with legal resources. Efforts to address the impact of immigration policies on schools are ongoing, as educators strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
