Recent reports indicate that some immigrants who were arrested under the Trump administration's crackdown have been released due to a lack of detention space. The number of reported arrests is just under 7,500, with some individuals now being monitored under the Alternatives for Detention program. This program allows U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to track individuals using ankle monitors, wrist bands, or telephonic check-ins.
It remains unclear how many of the approximately 7,500 arrested immigrants have been released. The main reason cited for their release is the insufficient detention space available. Tom Homan, Trump's border czar, has been requesting additional funding from Congress to build more detention facilities to accommodate the increasing number of undocumented immigrants being arrested and deported.

In response to the need for more detention space, Trump announced plans to expand the capacity at Guantanamo Bay by adding up to 30,000 beds. US Marines have already arrived at the Naval base to commence construction. However, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem clarified that the intention is not to hold migrants at Guantanamo Bay indefinitely.
