Illegal Immigrant Charged With Capital Murder In Texas Cheerleader's Death

Arlington, Texas, police investigate a shooting at Lamar High School in Arlington, March 20, 2023. A 16-year-old who opened fire at the Dallas-area school earlier this year, killing one student

In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, a 16-year-old cheerleader was found dead in her home in Texas last December. The suspect, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, is set to be arraigned in court at 10 a.m. for the capital murder charge.

This marks the first time the accused will face a judge for this specific charge, but it has been revealed that he had a criminal history prior to this heinous crime. Reports indicate that he was on probation for a burglary case approximately 60 miles away from the murder scene.

The Texas grand jury indicted Rafael Govea Romero for the brutal attack on 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina. The victim was allegedly struck on the head repeatedly and stabbed. Shockingly, the suspect also took her phone post the crime, responding to text messages and using her social media accounts, leading authorities to suspect he may have been targeting other students.

Medina's mother discovered her daughter's lifeless body in the bathtub after she failed to show up for a cheerleading parade. The grieving mother expressed her anguish, stating, 'Nobody ever wants to see their child in the bathtub, the way I found her. Nobody. I just want justice for my baby.'

Furthermore, the mother highlighted the need for stricter laws in light of this tragedy and the recent case of Georgia College student Lake and Riley. She emphasized the importance of taking action to prevent such heartbreaking incidents from recurring.

House Republicans have introduced the Lake and Riley Act, which aims to mandate ICE to detain illegal immigrants arrested for burglary. Many believe that such legislation could have potentially saved the lives of both young women, including Lizbeth Medina.
