The San Diego sector has become ground zero for mass illegal crossings of adult men from these regions, with individuals showing little fear of consequences or deportation upon arrival.
Special interest aliens, individuals from countries with potential national security concerns, have been among those crossing illegally into the area. Residents and border patrol have noted a significant increase in the number of individuals from countries like Pakistan, India, Turkey, China, Ecuador, Iran, and more.
Local resident Corey Godaro has been collecting discarded passports and IDs left behind by illegal immigrants as they cross the border. Many of these documents are from various countries, some of which are burned, cut, or shredded, indicating attempts to assume new identities upon arrival.
The influx of military-age males crossing illegally has raised concerns, particularly given the background of some individuals. Border Patrol in San Diego has reported a significant uptick in illegal crossings, marking the highest numbers since the 1990s.
While the flow of illegal crossings has slowed down in recent weeks compared to the record numbers seen late last year, this change is attributed to the deployment of the Mexican military along the southern border. Following discussions between US officials and Mexican authorities, an arrangement was made for increased enforcement on the Mexican side of the border.
