Illan Meslier told he had a 'perfect game' in Leeds United's shutout of Newcastle United

Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has claimed Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier was 'perfect' in his side's 0-0 draw against Newcastle United on New Year's Eve and admitted he's one of his favourite goalkeepers in the league.

The 22-year-old received the highest rating from LeedsLive readers after the draw at St. James' Park with an average rating of 8.6, which was 1.4 higher than the next-best player.

But it wasn't just Whites fans who noticed how important he'd been to securing a tough point - and his third clean sheet of the season - as Foster praised the Frenchman almost to no end.

"On the face of it, it looks like a bit of a bore draw but if you actually look at the game, Newcastle popped Leeds off the park," Foster said on his YouTube channel.

"Massive saves by Meslier. I rewatched the game earlier just to double-check with myself, he's made five or six real top-class saves, this is the perfect game for me, a dream.

"Two of my favourite Premier League goalkeepers making big saves all over the game."
