Illan Meslier makes Leeds United transfer admission amid Chelsea and Tottenham interest

Illan Meslier has admitted his Leeds United situation is "complicated" amid reported interest from several Premier League clubs.

Football can be a fickle game and, as recently as January, the Frenchman was linked with a move to Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur. But a poor run of form saw Meslier lose his place at Elland Road, with one of Sam Allardyce’s first decisions as interim boss being to drop him from the side

Both London heavyweights endured goalkeeping problems last season and are in the market for a new shot-stopper this summer. Jordan Pickford is a name that refuses to go away given Everton’s own struggles near the relegation zone.

However, the England international only signed a new contract in February - meaning Chelsea or Spurs would have to stump up a small fortune to sign him. Given Leeds have dropped down to the Championship and benched Meslier during the run-in, he could provide a cheaper alternative.

At 23, his goalkeeping career remains in its infancy and he would provide a long-term solution for either club. Chelsea have struggled to decide on a first-choice goalkeeper while Hugo Lloris has signalled his intention to leave Spurs.

Speaking to French outlet RMC Sport, Meslier admitted his career is currently in limbo and an exit could be on the cards. The goalie said: "It's complicated. Really it's complicated. When you get out of a situation that is ours, I don't know if you've seen the coach, our club is in the process of being bought out by the San Francisco 49ers.

"Suddenly there are a lot of unknowns. So for the moment, I have my contract until 2026. After that, I will have to think about what is best for me whether that's at Leeds United or another club."
