A city centre has been closed for the second time in 24 hours after only reopening during the early hours of this morning. Ilkeston Road was closed inbound at the junction with Faraday Road at around 12:30pm on Wednesday, June 14, in relation to the attacks in the city centre yesterday, June 13.
Emergency services are currently at the scene and have closed the road. Students Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar, both 19, were found dead on Ilkeston Road at around 4am on Tuesday, June 13 after being stabbed.
Another man, Ian Coates, was stabbed in a separate but linked incident on Magdala Road, where it is alleged the suspect then stole his van and later attempted to run over three people. A 31 year old man has been arrested by Nottinghamshire Police.
A tweet from Trent Barton states: "Police have closed Ilkeston Road again for a few hours due to the incident yesterday. Our #two will miss the attached stops, please allow extra time for your trip." However, at around 1pm it was reported that the road has since been reopened.
According to traffic monitoring site Inrix: "A609 Ilkeston Road inbound re-opened, traffic returned to normal, police incident over between Faraday Road and Cobden Street."
