Ilkay Gundogan revealed that his Manchester City teammates were aware of Liverpool's 2-0 win over Watford in the early kick off on Saturday afternoon to temporarily move ahead in the Premier League table.
Liverpool's place at the summit of the Premier League was brief as City quickly restored their one point lead with a 2-0 victory over struggling Burnley at Turf Moor. The two title rivals meet in a clash for the ages next Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.
The German midfielder highlighted how he and his City teammates expected Liverpool to move to the top of the league with a victory at Anfield.

"That's how it's gonna look until the end of the season," Gundogan told CityTV when asked about Liverpool's match earlier in the day.
"Obviously we have the direct duel next week so our target is to open up the gap a little more. But we know they are very strong at the moment. Probably we shouldn't expect them to drop a lot of points in the remaining few games.
"It's our responsibility to play good football but more importantly successful football by winning games."
