Ilkay Gundogan blows Celtic Park trumpet again as Manchester City star says Hoops are his most loved opponents

The Parkhead atmosphere has been hailed once again by Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan.

The Premier League giants travelled to face Celtic in the Champions League group stage back in September 2016. It was a night to remember for those involved both on and off the pitch as the sides fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw, and the German star still holds on to fond memories from his trip to Glasgow's east end.

The midfielder was asked on Twitter which team he loves to play against and his answer is sure to please the Parkhead loyal. Gundogan's response reads: "I really loved the atmosphere against Celtic at Celtic Park in 2016 - that was amazing". The number eight featured for all 90 minutes of the European clash in front of a 60,000 strong Parkhead support. And the crowd sure provided an incredible atmosphere, with the experience still etched in the mind of the 31-year-old. The German international has featured in his fair share of huge games, with four Premier League titles under his belt. But that Celtic clash takes top spot.

It’s not the first time Gundogan has hailed the atmosphere in Glasgow’s East End. He previously said it "still gives him goosebumps'. The game brought goals galore with the tie finishing threea piece. It was a perfect start for the Hoops when Moussa Dembele opened the scoring after just three minutes. Man City fought back quick, though, when Fernandinho slotted home eight minutes later to even the scoring. The first 45 ended square after a Raheem Sterling OG put Celtic in front before the forward made up for it by netting to make it 2-2 just before the half hour mark.

The Parkhead roar erupted yet again when Brendan Rodgers' men came out all guns blazing in the second half, regain their lead just two minutes in through a second from Moussa Dembélé. Nolito evened it out once again after 55 minutes, though. Nevertheless, it was an impressive display from the men in green and white with the Celtic Park support impressive just as much if Gundogan's memory is anything to go by. Could there be more electric Champions League nights for Ange Postecoglou and his side this season? Time will certainly tell.
