Ilkay Gundogan and Aymeric Laporte make charity bet on World Cup 2022 clash for Man City Foodbank

Ilkay Gundogan and Aymeric Laporte will donate 1,000 meals to families in Manchester after their nations were paired together in the Qatar 2022 World Cup draw.

The Manchester City pair will play each other in December after Gundogan's Germany were drawn to face Laporte's Spain in the group stage in Qatar.

After the draw, they took to Twitter to propose a charity bet on the outcome of the group, urging fans to suggest good causes. After consideration, they announced on Monday that they will donate to MCFC Fans Foodbank Support, who collect donations from supporters before and after games at the Etihad to help families and individuals in need.

After Friday's draw, Laporte tweeted: "Looks like I'm probably gonna meet someone I know there," tagging Gundogan in the post.

Gundogan replied: "Bet on who finishes better there for the good cause?," with Laporte agreeing and urging supporters to decide what the bet should be.

Now, the pair have announced that the winner of the friendly wager will donate 1,000 meals to MCFC Fans Foodbank Support, with Laporte revealing that some suggestions were more 'crazy' than others.

He said: "Thanks for all the bet ideas, some went crazy. Gundo & I decided to support @MCFCfoodbank: 1000 meals for the homeless people in Manchester on whoever wins the bet."

In a similar post, Gundogan said: "Thanks for all your bet ideas last Friday... we've decided together to support the @MCFCfoodbank: 1000 meals for the homeless people in Manchester on whoever wins our World Cup bet."

MCFC Fans Foodbank Support have been collecting at City games since 2020, and can be found taking food donations at their gazebo on matchdays at the top of Sir Howard Bernstein Way. They pass on the donations to the Manchester Central Foodbank, work with other groups from opposition clubs, and join campaigns to improve the lives of those in Manchester struggling with food poverty.
