Ikea has announced plans to close its iconic Tottenham store in Edmonton, north London, putting 450 jobs at risk.
The flatpack giant said the closure comes as part of a £1billion "transformation plan" for its business in the capital.
The Tottenham store will remain open with normal opening hours until further notice. Ikea hasn't revealed a closing date yet.
In its statement released this morning, Ikea confirmed some 450 employees will enter a consultation as a result of the closure.
Ikea said it has plans to retain as many workers as possible within the business.
It is also planning to create some 600 vacancies in the capital before the store shuts, which will be given to employees affected by the closure as a priority.
Peter Jelkeby, country retail manager and chief sustainability officer, Ikea UK and Ireland said: "Taking care of our co-workers is our highest priority and we will lead with respect and compassion throughout the process.
"The decision to propose closing the Tottenham store has not been taken lightly but we believe it is the right thing to do for our customers and business as we strengthen our position for the future."

He continued: "We will do everything we can to support the co-workers affected and our hope is that as many as possible will continue their career journey with us."
Ikea still has five other stores in London – in Croydon, Greenwich, Hammersmith, Lakeside and Wembley. Its new, smaller format Hammersmith store opened in February this year.
The retailer will open a new fulfilment centre in Dartford in December 2022 and in autumn 2023, Ikea will open its long-awaited store on Oxford Street.
The former Topshop site in Oxford Circus has been vacant since ASOS went on to buy Arcadia brands - including Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and leisurewear range HIIT - for £330million in February.
The deal was to take on the brands' online presence, meaning the physical shops disappeared from the high street.
Usdaw national officer Dave Gill added: "Our priorities are to seek redeployment opportunities, avoid compulsory redundancies and secure the best deal we can for staff.
"In the meantime Usdaw is providing our members with the support, advice and representation they need through this period of uncertainty."
Ikea has 23 stores in the UK, not including its planned openings this year and in 2023.
