IKEA issues urgent recall notice on espresso maker due to risk of bursting during use

IKEA has had to recall one of its espresso makers due to a default that may see the item burst during use.

According to the Swedish furniture retailer, anyone in possession of a METALLISK espresso maker should return to their nearest store for a full refund.

The affected model is 0.4L in size with a stainless steel safety valve and date stamps between 2040 (year/week) and 2204 (year/week), with the reference number 703.602.25.

Customers should stop using this product immediately if they find they have one of the implicated products.

In a statement released by the company, an IKEA spokesperson said: “Safety is a top priority for IKEA and therefore we are recalling METALLISK espresso maker with the stainless-steel safety valve, date stamps between 2040 (year/week) and 2204 (year/week), due to an increased risk of the product bursting during use.

"IKEA has received reports of the espresso maker bursting during use, due to a change of material and construction, with the potential of injury as a result.

"This risk was found in the updated model featuring the stainless-steel safety valve (silver/grey in colour).

"The product has been withdrawn from sale and we are now issuing a recall."

Customers are asked to return theirs to an IKEA store for a full refund - and proof of purchase (receipt) is not required.

“IKEA apologizes for any inconvenience this recall may cause. ”
