Ikea blasted for leaving entire country off its world map

Ikea has been blasted for leaving New Zealand off its world map, weeks after announcing it would be opening its first outlet in the country.

The embarrassing gaffe made on its $30 (£23) Bjorksta world map has been shared widely on social media, as Kiwis expressed disbelief that their country could be forgotten.

The photo was first posted to Reddit with the caption “Ikea’s map game is not on point.”

One person responded on Twitter: "What’s the deal Ikea with forgetting an entire country off the world maps you are selling? New Zealand exists!"

Another wrote: "Hopefully Ikea won’t be using their own map to find us when they open their first store in New Zealand".

Ikea’s New Zealand manager has confirmed the furniture store will open in Auckland and the South Island.

Kiwis have long complained about their country being left off world maps, with an entire Reddit thread and Facebook page dedicated to sharing photos of maps that are missing New Zealand.

Last year, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern launched a toungue-in-cheek campaign calling for everyone to recognise the country.
