Retail giants IKEA and Tesco have teamed up to launch a new collection project to help customers. The Swedish home furnishings firm is collaborating with the supermarket to expand its 'Collect Near You' to allow shoppers more choice to where they pick up orders.
IKEA, which has stores in Bristol and Exeter in the South West, is working with Tesco sites across England, where designated areas of the car park will have collection points. The first collection point will open in Blackburn on October 10 before further sites in Doncaster, Cambridge, Dereham, Bolton, Stockport and Liverpool are added.
Customers who order more than £200 worth of items will be allowed to use the collection point for free, while all transactions under this amount will be charged £10. IKEA said the project aims to provide customers with "more convenient, accessible, and affordable collection services across the UK".

Julie Carr, IKEA's UK and Ireland fulfilment and multichannel network manager, said: "We are proud to be collaborating with Tesco to test-and-trial more convenient, accessible, and affordable collection services in the UK across a number of key locations. This collaboration recognises that in an ever-changing retail environment, there is an opportunity to work together to bring IKEA closer to the many people."
When buying items on the IKEA website, customers will be able to select the 'Collect Near You' option at their local Tesco. At the car parks, signage will be installed to point customers in the right direction.
Shoppers will be able to choose the date and time they collect their order. An IKEA delivery driver and vehicle will be there waiting for them with their order. The trial will be running for an initial period of six months.
