Iggy Azalea rips airline for ‘stranding’ her and toddler in Miami. But there was a reason

MIAMI — Iggy Azalea experienced some on-the-ground turbulence at Miami International Airport last week.

The “Fancy” singer tweeted that American Airlines stranded her in the Magic City while she was traveling with her 2-year-old son, Onyx.

The 31-year-old Aussie started her April 18 post warning other families to be careful when booking with the Dallas-based carrier if they have young kids.

“I was flying with my son and they sold our seats while the gate was still open, then refused to take our bags off the plane although every other flight was sold out for that night,” Azalea fumed.

AA replied: “We love having families travel with us and would like to dig a little more into what happened. Please DM us to verify your record locator.”

The thread soon began to expand, with Azalea spitting back: “No need to dig into anything! Me & other families have shared our apparently VERY common experiences of your airline selling kids’ seats after check-in, leaving families stranded, refusing to give back luggage, etc. Just peep the thread - it’s very on brand for you, apparently.”

In a different tweet, Azalea explained to her 7.6 million followers that she was more upset that her child’s luggage with “stuff that he needs” was sent away on the original plane even though they weren’t on it.

But it seems that Azalea experienced so many travel issues because she showed up late, just a half hour before the flight was to take off.

MIA staff told TMZ that the rapper showed up at the airport at 5:30 p.m. for a 6 p.m. takeoff. Even though Azalea was able to successfully check her bags, a member of her entourage was held up at TSA and this delayed the whole party. When they arrived at the gate, the door was already closed.

According to AA, you may check in at the self-service kiosk as soon as 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time but three hours before is recommended.

All’s well that ends well, at least for Onyx. Azalea ended booking another flight with a different airline, but acknowledged the average person could likely not have afforded the price of such a last-minute ticket.

By the looks of another picture she posted, the child (dad is Azalea’s ex, rapper Playboi Carti) was flying first class, reclining in what appears to be a bed with a TV.

Azalea said Onyx was a trouper and didn’t cry once, despite getting to their destination at 3 a.m.

Their destination was unclear, but Azalea will be back to Florida. She will soon launch her tour, Can’t Stop Us Now, with Miami’s Pitbull, hitting dozens of cities this summer, including Orlando and Fort Myers. (Maybe take a bus?)

Regardless, it seems Azalea learned her lesson about being punctual. In a more recent tweet responding to a fan who expressed fears about traveling with a little one, the singer advised: “Girl, get there three hours early.”
