Apple has revealed a stellar lineup of new software updates and products including a 15-inch MacBook Air and its first-ever VR headset called the Vision Pro. However, one of the biggest announcements coming out of the firm's WWDC event is the upcoming release of iOS 17.
This free upgrade, which will land on iPhones in September, includes a swathe of new features aimed including a Standby Mode which transforms these popular call makers in mini smart displays for your desk.
It's a major release but it seems that some iPhone owners are set to miss out. Apple has confirmed that not all devices currently running iOS 16 will be compatible with iOS 17 and that could be a major blow to millions who own older smartphones.
So which iPhones are going to be left out?
Gadgets that are losing the ability to run iOS 17 include the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. If that's what is in your pocket then you'll need to consider switching to something new if you want to take advantage of things such as personalised Contact Posters which will let you design a unique look that pops up when calls are incoming.
Other bonuses announced by Apple include Live Voicemail which gives users the ability to see real-time transcription as someone leaves a message and there's a change to AirDrop with this feature getting something called NameDrop.
This basically allows users to easily share contact information by simply bringing their iPhones together.
iOS 17 also introduces Check In. This sends an instant text when you arrive home safely so friends know you are OK or raise the alarm if they don't hear from you.
You can find the full list of changes in iOS 17 and here's every phone that will be compatible with it when it arrives this autumn.

“With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.
“Phone, FaceTime, and Messages are central to how we communicate, and this release is packed with updates we think our users are going to love. We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share, autocorrect gets even better, and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy, plus so much more. We can’t wait for everyone to try it.”
