Hinge, the dating app “designed to be deleted”, has released a brand new voice note feature – which has left people in hysterics, and perhaps, prompted them to take a break from the online dating scene.
With love at first listen front of mind, Hinge’s Voice Prompts allow daters to answer a prompt through a 30-second voice recording after research revealed 65% of Hinge singles believe hearing someone’s voice would help them determine interest in a match.
One TikToker took to the platform to share a hilarious experience that caught her off guard – in a clip that has racked a staggering 2.7 million views overnight.
Captioned, “Someone needs to be fired for this Hinge update”, Carly (@carlyweinstein1) shared a screen recording of a potential suitor who toyed with the new feature in response to “guess the song.”
In a bizarre turn of events, the man bursts into song with his rendition of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” from The Lion King. “THIS IS SO FUNNY. HE’S PUTTING HIS WHOLE HEART INTO IT,” one fellow user commented, while another questioned his bizarre choice of song.
“All I can hear is a king expressing himself,” another joked.

The clip promoted many people “to redownload Hinge” for the sake of entertainment. “Brb, I might need to download Hinge specifically for this,” they said.
“Fired? Should be given a raise,” another added. “This is real insight and can save you from a date... Or bring out a real winner.”
“Hinge wants to help people get to know you as soon as they see your profile. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, imagine how many your voice is worth,” said Michelle Parsons, Chief Product Officer at Hinge.
“With the introduction of Voice Prompts, we’re adding more authenticity to the profile experience, allowing users to fully display their personality in a new way. Our team’s focus is to introduce product updates that help our daters move from the selfie to new forms of self-expression.”
