The Arizona Cardinals are shopping wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. There is a back and forth in the media about what is happening.
Five teams are supposedly in the mix but the Cardinals are firm on their asking price and teams want them to come down.
Now, it is being said that teams are dragging their feet, waiting for the Cardinals to potentially release Hopkins.
Hopkins will be 31 years old this coming season and has missed 15 games over the last two seasons between injuries and a suspension.
He is due more than $34 million over the final two years of his contract, including more than $19 million this season, although none of that money is guaranteed.
The contract is apparently a sticking point. Some teams would like the Cardinals to take on some of the salary.
It doesn’t make sense for the Cardinals to take on some of the salary, as they will only get about $8 million of cap relief as it is.
Maybe the money shouldn’t be a sticking point.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, appearing in the Pat McAfee Show. the money will be addressed.
“If he was traded, his salary would be adjusted,” he said. “Maybe potentially if he is back, it could be adjusted.”
Whether that is a salary reduction or a bonus paid to lower the cap hit with a new team, it will happen.
The question is simply whether it will happen in the next few days or whether it will happen on draft day.
