If Packers make playoffs, trip to San Francisco to play 49ers looks increasingly likely

If the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions on Sunday night and clinch a playoff spot as the seventh seed, a trip to San Francisco to play the 49ers looks increasingly likely.

If the Packers, 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings all win in Week 18, the Packers – as the seventh seed – will play the 49ers – the second seed – in the first round.

Wins by all five teams in the season finale look like the most probable scenario.

The 49ers will play the Arizona Cardinals, who are starting quarterback David Blough.

The Eagles (who need a win to clinch the top seed and a bye) will play the New York Giants, who are locked into the No. 6 seed in the NFC.

The Cowboys will play the Washington Commanders, who are starting rookie quarterback Sam Howell.

The Vikings will play the Chicago Bears, who are starting Nathan Peterman.

The Packers going to San Francisco to play the 49ers would provide a rematch of last year’s postseason when the 49ers came to Lambeau Field and knocked off the top-seeded Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. The Packers also lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game following the 2019 season. In fact, the 49ers have ended the Packers’ season in the playoffs four times since 2012.

Will the Packers get a chance at postseason revenge in San Francisco by next week?
