UFC ownership of past and present has invested in another combat sport and on Tuesday took one step closer to launching a new promotion.
Dana White’s Power Slap League will head to Las Vegas, targeted to officially debut by the end of 2022, after slap fighting received approval from the Nevada Athletic Commission during a monthly regulatory.
After a presentation by UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell, the NAC determined slap fighting is a competition that should fall under its regulatory scope.
As usual, MMA Twitter had plenty of takes on the UFC’s newest venture. Scroll below to see what members of the community had to say.

By this logic the commission should — nay, MUST — also regulate Mallet Fighting. Can’t have some yahoos out there doing their own mallet fights. https://t.co/N7hCLiGuY6 pic.twitter.com/XcUczBApyn

If boxing is to hit and not be hit, slap fighting is kinda the opposite where getting hit is specifically arranged and done without impediment. Nevada’s commission is pretty shameless. https://t.co/cj25q58RhV

I'd maybe go with something besides White's Power! https://t.co/77LJBeuL4H

Dana White and Co. might think that moving toward regulation like they did with MMA helps legitimize this venture, but nothing about slap fighting is sport. It’s a freak show and a money grab. It might as well be kicking each other in the nuts. 🥴 https://t.co/smYSPsSJ5p

MMA: A sport where the fight ends if you are not intelligently defending yourself.
Slap Fighting: A sport where the rules insist that you refrain from intelligently defending yourself. https://t.co/1sFvSq8ZQr

When NSAC adopts variants of combat sports they are supposed to consider
"the health and safety of the unarmed combatants participating in the contest or exhibition and the reputation of unarmed combat in this State"
Today they failed with flying colours

Slap fighting is the equivalent if a Nascar race was just intentional car crashes.

Slap fighting is largely unwatchable. Unless they're bringing in the Eastern Europe monsters from PunchDown, don't even bother https://t.co/7JMOq1FhGs
