Some people claim to want to get away from it all and escape to the country for total peace and to live a simpler life but how many actually mean total privacy and a 'back to nature' lifestyle? Maybe most mean a budget-busting converted barn or former farmhouse along a country lane with some land to grow vegetables, have horses, and maybe a pool or hot tub in the garden as an added luxury to relax and also create an outdoor sociable hub.
There has been a rush to find smaller, more budget-accessible homes in rural settings too, with cute cottages and period terraces finding new owners who want a slice of the rural idyll that the Covid-19 lockdown has made them dream about. With working from home now a possibility full-time, or at least part of the time, for many people the options of where to live has expanded considerably – as long as the wifi in the middle of nowhere can get to you.

It's a rural lifestyle that some people have either secured since the Covid-19 pandemic by moving home and it is one that still entices people to still be on the hunt for their new home in the country. But you don't have to have the expense or hassle of house-hunting, buying, and maybe even fighting for your new home, and then packing up to move – you could buy a parcel of peace in the countryside as your 'go to' location when you need a break and to reconnect with the gorgeous Welsh landscape.
Regularly hunt down the property and land auctions and you might find yourself a little woodland gem that you can call your very own slice of Wales as your break from the daily grind. And there's a parcel of about 2.25 acres going to auction that might just get you looking for your wellies. The parcel that is worth unwrapping is recreational woodland close to the stunning River Dee and the Horseshoe Falls in Denbighshire.
But this slice of outdoor life in Coed Bwlch, Rhysgog, is only about three miles away from Llangollen if you run out of matches for the campfire and your Bear Grylls survival skills are so limited they don't include rubbing two sticks together to create a spark. Some might say it offers the best of both worlds. But this parcel of land is definitely a top prize because it comes with the rarity of the addition of a woodland cabin nestled within the majestic trees. The cabin can boast an unusual situation as the estate agent says it has full forestry consent for its existence so the new owner won't have to squash it and use it for firewood – they can actually look forward to enjoying it.
And there's another huge bonus at the cabin as the consent includes permission for overnight stays during the summer. The estate agent selling the land and cabin states: "The woodland is approached via a forest track access and has the highly unusual benefit of having a consented wooden cabin situate, which provides shelter and permits opportunities for overnight occupations during the warmer months. It's a delightful and unusual opportunity."
But if you think owning this land gives you the excuse you need to buy a bulky 4x4 you are out of luck as the land can be fully approached by a standard car. The timber cabin magically emerges from the forest floor and comfortably nestles underneath the surrounding trees' canopy of branches. Inside it's a single room with large windows out to the forest and space to house and accommodate all the basics you need for an overnight stay, such as a camp bed.
Double doors at one end act as the front door but also the most wonderful way to connect the cabin to the woodland and the little deck area that is part of the platform on which the lodge is built is a special bonus as a place to sit. But outside there is also a delightful raised seating area where the woodland floor is pegged back by a wall of logs so a picnic table can happily sit and look out over the view one way and towards a campfire in the other direction.
Of course should the Welsh weather interrupt your breakfast bacon butty the addition of an optional cover over the picnic table is a great bonus. And then it's off to explore your two acres of woodland and river valley land that could be your escape to the country whenever you need it. The land and cabin is going to auction with a guide price of £20,000 at The Lion Quays Hotel, Oswestry, on Thursday, June 30, at 2pm.
A legal pack and further details including about the buyer's premium to be paid in addition to the purchase price (set at £2,500 inclusive of VAT) is available from estate agents Bowen Son and Watson with Kent Jones no later than two weeks prior to the date of the sale.
