Idris Elba's new thriller, Hijack, is getting glowing reviews from viewers leaving their thoughts on social media and Rotten Tomatoes. The TV show currently has a 89 per cent rating on the site's 'Tomatometer', with the glossy series' slick, fast-paced twists and turns proving to be a big hit.
The seven-episode series which is paced in real time over a seven-hour flight, follows Elba's character, Sam Nelson, who is on a plane from Dubai to London that has been hijacked. Nelson is a corporate negotiator who tries to use his professional skills to save the passengers on the plane.
Speaking to the PA news agency at the show's premiere in London, Elba said the set was a "millimetre by millimetre replica" of a plane and was "designed to be uncomfortable" to capture a lack of space. He explained: "[It was] claustrophobic, but designed that way you know? Planes are not like boxing rings, there's no place to swing.
"I really enjoyed that… action sequences are designed to be exhilarating, but in a plane – they're going to be awkward. There’s no space to fight."
On social media, fans are loving Hijack, but are finding it hard waiting for weekly episodes to be released. One viewer, LesbianBigies, tweeted: "Just found a new show #Hijack oh my god it's sooooo good. I wish I'd found it late so I could binge it, ugh I have to wait another week"
PerveenAkhtar wrote: "Was all set for a binge watch of #hijack on @AppleTV and there's only 2 episodes. What's all this 1 episode a week nonsense, it's not the 1980s!"
BrainyNewSexySH said: "I'm already hooked with this series. I don't know how I'm going to wait weekly to watch an episode! #Hijack." Replying to Elba's tweet promoting Hijack, SouvikSrimal typed: "Superb story line and performance. Kudos!"
CurtessaJacques added: "Very suspenseful. Great plot twist with you and the hijacker's. Looking forward to the next episodes!!!" Unfortunately for fans looking to watch episode after episode, they're in for wait.
