Idiot posted Instagram pictures of himself posing on stolen bikes

A hapless thief posted pictures of himself posing on stolen motorbikes on Instagram.

Dean Hall, 26, of Albert Road, Widnes, was shown sitting on a Ducati, Triumph Speed and SYM scooter, all of which had been pilfered in Runcorn.

Cheshire Police said the bikes in the social media snaps, posted from July 2021 to January 2022, were worth more than £25,000. Officers linked the account to Hall and arrested him at home on Friday, January 28.

He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of handling stolen goods.

After pleading guilty to the charges he appeared at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Warrington last Wednesday where he was jailed for 52 weeks.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Daryl Gavin, of Cheshire Police, said: “Hall was well aware that the bikes were stolen, but despite this he brazenly, or stupidly, posted a number of images online posing with them like trophies and believing that he was above the law.

“However, his actions clearly backfired when officers traced the account to him he was left with no option but to admit his role and plead guilty to all of the charges.”
