The Israel Defense Forces have declared that the conflict in Gaza is ongoing despite the elimination of Yahya Sinwar, a top leader of Hamas. Sinwar, who was responsible for orchestrating the Oct. 7 attack, was targeted by IDF forces in a mission to bring him and other Hamas leaders to justice.
According to Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, declassified footage revealed Sinwar's movements in Gaza leading up to the attacks, as well as his efforts to hide in underground tunnels. The IDF has confirmed that there are still 101 hostages being held in Gaza under harsh conditions, and they are committed to ensuring their safe return.
Hagari emphasized that while Sinwar has been eliminated, the IDF's mission is far from over. The focus remains on rescuing all hostages and defending Israel from any threats along its borders.
Prior to the Oct. 7 attacks, Sinwar was captured on video preparing for the violence, prioritizing his own safety and that of his fellow terrorists over the well-being of the people of Gaza. Despite efforts to conceal his whereabouts, IDF operations eventually led to the discovery of Sinwar's underground hideout in Khan Yunis.
Sinwar's attempt to flee to Rafah was short-lived, as IDF forces tracked him down and engaged in combat, resulting in his elimination. The operation also revealed Sinwar's involvement in the execution of Israeli hostages in Rafah.
The IDF's determination to bring all hostages home and protect Israeli and Gazan civilians from harm remains unwavering, as they continue to pursue justice and security in the region.
