Father of Idaho murder victim says ‘means of death’ do not match

Investigators in Moscow, Idaho, have insisted that the recent arrest of a convicted killer is not connected to the brutal stabbing murders of four University of Idaho students.

James Leonard, 39, was arrested on Wednesday just a mile from the home on King Road where Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were butchered in their beds on 13 November, prompting online speculation of a possible link.

Moscow Police said that the incidents are not linked and that Leonard is not a suspect in the murders, as they announced plans to crack down on misinformation circulating online about the high-profile case.

“Investigators have been monitoring online activity related to this ongoing and active case and are aware of the large amount of rumors and misinformation being shared as well as harassing and threating behavior toward potentially involved parties,” police vowed.

Four weeks on from the murders, no arrests have been made and no suspects named.

On Saturday, the four victims were honoured at the university’s winter commencement – a ceremony where Goncalves should have celebrated her graduation.
