The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed its readiness to assist in implementing the ceasefire and hostage deal. ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric stated that they are prepared to facilitate any release operation as agreed by the parties to ensure the safe return of hostages and detainees to their homes.
In 2023, the ICRC played a crucial role in facilitating the release of 109 hostages and 154 Palestinian detainees. Spoljaric emphasized that such operations are complex and require detailed logistical and security planning to minimize risks to life.
Furthermore, the ICRC is willing to enhance its humanitarian response in Gaza, where the situation demands urgent attention. Spoljaric highlighted the need for continuous efforts from all parties involved to enable ICRC teams to carry out their work safely and effectively.
Spoljaric also pointed out the significant humanitarian needs in the region that must be addressed, indicating that the process could take months or even years to fulfill. The ICRC stands ready to provide support and assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict.
