Iconic Technics SL Series Turntable Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

The new Technics SL-1200MK7 is available in seven colors: black, red, blue, white, green, yellow and beige. Technics

Can it be 50 years since Technics launched the iconic SL-1200 turntable so beloved by DJs the world over? Even with the advent of CDs and digital audio, this classic turntable has endured and is, in some ways, more popular than ever.

To celebrate half a century of vinyl revolutions, Technics has launched the limited-edition SL-1200M7Lturntable which will be limited to 12,000 units worldwide. Based on the SL-1200MK7 that was released in 2019, the new direct-drive turntables will be available in seven limited-edition colors: black, red, blue, white, green, yellow and erm… beige. All seven colors were selected to reflect the street culture that gave birth to DJing with vinyl.

Technics says the SL-1200M7L Special Edition has details that shine through, including a tonearm anodized in a golden hue, engraved serial number, plus a gold-colored slipmat with the iconic Technics logo.

In addition to those special features, the SL-1200M7L has a rigid cabinet with high-damping insulation that cuts out all vibrations, even if someone is pogoing next to it. There’s a starting torque/brake speed adjustment function, pitch control for accurate and stable pitch adjustment, plus reverse play to give full expression to even the most individual of DJing styles. Finally, there’s a stylus illuminator featuring a high-brightness and long-life LED so the DJ can see where they are placing the stylus.

The Technics 1200 Series was launched as a popular direct-drive turntable was back in 1972, quickly becoming a best seller. It was epitomized by its powerful torque, ease of operation and exceptional durability. Even today, the SL series is still highly acclaimed by DJs around the globe.

To celebrate the release, Technics is streaming an event in collaboration with Boiler Room and Dommune on Thursday 7th April 2022, 14.00 – appr. 21.00 (BST). The event will feature seven DJs from around the world.

Pricing & Availability: Technics SL-1200M7L is available now and costs $1,099.99 / £899.99.
