Iconic guitars from the late Jeff Beck's collection are set to be auctioned off at Christie's in London. The preview of the collection, which includes 90 guitars and various other items, was held on Tuesday, with the public able to view the items starting Wednesday until the auction on Jan. 22.
Jeff Beck, a legendary guitarist who passed away in January 2023 at the age of 78, was known as the 'ultimate guitarist’s guitar hero.' He was part of the 1960s guitar heroes alongside Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jimi Hendrix. Beck was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, with his band Yardbirds and as a solo artist. His unique sound and improvisational skills led him to collaborate with a wide range of artists, from Rod Stewart to Stevie Wonder.
The collection, valued at over 1 million pounds ($1.2 million), features notable guitars such as a 1954 Gibson Les Paul that Beck purchased in Memphis in 1972. This guitar, featured on the cover of Beck's Grammy-winning album 'Blow by Blow,' is expected to fetch between 350,000 pounds and 500,000 pounds ($425,000 and $610,000) at the auction.
Another highlight of the collection is a Telecaster-Gibson hybrid known as 'Tele-Gib,' valued at 100,000 pounds to 150,000 pounds ($122,000 to $183,000). Additionally, Beck's 1954 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster is estimated to sell for 50,000 pounds to 80,000 pounds ($61,000 to $98,000).
Sandra Beck, Jeff Beck's widow, expressed the emotional difficulty of parting with the collection, describing it as a 'massive wrench.' However, she noted that it was Jeff's wish for her to share his love for these guitars with the world.
