Iconic pub to be converted into housing as plans for almost 200 homes go on show

Plans for almost 200 new homes in Irvine — including the redevelopment of a historic pub — have gone before the public.

North Ayrshire Council has published proposals to transform the historic King’s Arms Hotel into six new homes and build another 189 at Montgomerie Park.

The Kings Arms, a town centre landmark, will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom homes with work currently scheduled to get under way in spring 2023.

The almost £2 million project will be supported by a Scottish Government grant.

The local authority is holding a consultation event to allow local people and interested parties to view the final plans for the site which can be viewed online here until Friday, October 28.

To make an appointment to discuss the plans, residents can email developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or telephone 01294 324031.

Draft plans for 189 new homes at Montgomerie Park, Irvine, are also now available to view and comment on.

This will be one of North Ayrshire’s largest council house developments in recent years and, once complete, will feature general needs homes, amenity bungalows and homes suitable for wheelchair users.

The site will provide a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom properties.

Construction work, which is worth around £40million and will be supported by a Scottish Government grant, is expected to get under way in late 2023.

Plans are available to view online here until Friday, October 28.

The council is also holding a local, in person, event on Wednesday, October 26. To book a place or to make a virtual appointment to discuss the plans email developmentandstrategy@north-ayrshire.gov.uk or telephone 01294 324031 by Monday, October 24.

Councillor Scott Davidson, cabinet member for place at North Ayrshire Council, said: “We have committed to building 1,625 new homes across North Ayrshire by 2027.

“Many people who visited the King’s Arms over the years will hopefully be happy to see the building given a new lease of life, and the redevelopment will play a role in regenerating the town centre.

“With new homes being developed in every part of North Ayrshire, we are delighted with the progress being made towards delivering one of the biggest and most ambitious house building programmes in the country.”
