Iconic Edinburgh pub gets 'throwback makeover' with secret beer garden

A popular Edinburgh bar named after a cult classic film has been given a throwback rebrand as it prepares to reopen its doors after nearly two years.

The Festival will debut inside the former home of Lebowski’s from Friday, February 25 following a complete refit of the Morrison Street venue.

The pub - known as The Festival Tavern until 2009 - was previously the hub for white Russian-guzzling pacifists looking to kick back and take the edge off after a long day.

However, brewer Greene King, which previously leased the site to fans of the Cohen brothers classic, now promises a "cosy home-from-home modern bar."

Images show the interior has been refurbished with new seating, tables and screens to enjoy a range of live sport.

But those fearing they may miss out on their Kahlua and vodka combo need not worry as the drink retains its place on an expansive menu along with rotational craft beer including Beavertown Neck Oil and Pilot Blond.

A 'secret' beer garden located to the rear will also provide patrons with a sunny terrace to enjoy their refreshments during the warmer months.

General manager Eilish Sanders said: “The Festival has always been a popular pub with a brilliant atmosphere and we can’t wait to show our regulars and new customers the stunning refurb.

"We’ve got a great line up of events coming up from Monday night quizzes, televised sport and regular Saturday night DJs, so there is something for everyone.

“Our new refurbishment showcases a really relaxed, comfortable, come-as-you-are environment and I can’t wait to welcome everyone in and showcase our new look – it’s going to be a great weekend.”
