A popular Edinburgh bakery faces having to lay off staff if the council cuts its late licence.
The much-loved Storries Bakery on Leith Walk is a godsend for late-night revellers and early-bird workers. But owners have been forced to launch a petition online to fight the threat to its nightly operations after a neighbour reportedly complained about noise.
Proud owner Kenny Leadingham says the business has been feeding locals for 42 years - and any loss of opening hours and staff would be "really disappointing."

Owner of the bakery for 24 years, Kenny said: "I should not have to go through all of this and make a petition online.
"Everybody comes in and some people seem to think that it is just nightclubbers that come in and it isn't, it's milkmen, posties, police officers, council workers, fire brigade, paramedics - it serves everybody and not just pub goers.
"I'd be really disappointed if I do not get my licence as It's staff's jobs that are affected. I employ staff at night, particularly for that reason so I obviously do not want to pay off staff."
The bakery is popular with Leith residents and visitors to the area due to its unusual opening times around the clock. More details on the Storries petition can be found on the business' Facebook page.
Chris Yule has worked at the confectionery for 15 years and could be affected if the businesses licence is not approved by the council. He said: "I'd lose my job as my boss wouldn't need me and after 15 years of working to lose your job it would not be good."

An Edinburgh Council spokeswoman said: "The business has a pending late hours catering licence application due before the Licensing Sub-committee on the June 12-13 and so I wouldn’t be appropriate to say anymore until a decision is made."
