Iconic Derry Girls blackboard displayed in Ulster Museum ahead of final series

We are not ready to say goodbye to our favourite Derry Girls and the wee English fella as the third and final series of the Channel 4 hit comedy airs this week.

Producing countless laughs and some real tear-jerking moments, Lisa McGee's hilarious show has become a favourite all across the world since 2018.

The show’s popularity may well be attributed to the hilarious dialogue, but woven throughout series one and two are milestones within Northern Ireland’s history which gives the audience an insight into what life must have been like growing up during the troubles.

Ahead of the start of the third series, an iconic prop from one of the show's funniest scenes has been displayed for fans at the Ulster Museum in Belfast.

National Museums NI have a part to play in the Derry Girls legacy through the installation of the ‘differences’ blackboard at the Ulster Museum, which was re-created by Anna McCaughtry, prop master on the show.

The blackboard was introduced in series two, when the girls take part in a cross-community discussion to explore the similarities and differences between Protestants and Catholics, but the group can only think of differences.

Comments about Prosteantants keeping their toasters in the cupboards and hating Abba and Catholics "really buzz" off statues (with Sister Michael agreeing) have become some of the most talked-about from the show's first two series.

You can visit the Ulster Museum to see the Derry Girls Blackboard for free and test your Protestant and Catholic similarity knowledge ahead of the final series.
