Iceland’s newest low-cost airline, PLAY, has announced its newest route between Dublin Airport and New York Stewart International Airport (SWF).
It brings the total number of the airline's Stateside routes to three, as SWF joins Baltimore/Washington and Boston on the flight grid.
Ticket sales begin on Tuesday, with the first flight departing on June 9 opening up affordable air travel to New York via Iceland’s Reykjavik, from as little as €159 one way (standard fare).
To celebrate the launch of its New York service, PLAY is offering a special introductory rate until midnight on February 7 of €139 on flights departing from Dublin Airport, making a trip to New York more affordable.
Transatlantic flights to New York will depart from Dublin three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), with a 1 hour and 20 minutes layover in Reykjavik.

"After we learnt of the surge in the area surrounding New York Stewart and the benefits it offers, we did not hesitate in snapping up the chance to operate from this airport; the low fares and flexibility that passengers experience at Stewart are exactly what passengers seek when they book their travel with PLAY.
"We anticipate strong bookings in 2022, and with New York as our third US destination, PLAY passengers will have more choices when booking last-minute trips, work-cations, and spontaneous adventures.”
A spokesperson for PLAY added: "Though Stewart airport is further away from Manhattan than JFK and Newark, it takes passengers approximately an hour less to get there thanks to the time saved getting through airport customs, compared to the much lengthier processes at JFK and Newark.
"In addition, faster transport routes by taxi, bus, and train, including Metro North, Amtrak, or Newburgh-Beacon-Stewart Link, mean travelling from Stewart is faster and more convenient.
"Stewart also gives passengers the chance to save money, with Coach USA operating rides to Manhattan, which are timed to coincide with the arrival and departure of PLAY’s flights, costing just $20 (€17), compared to $52 (€46) travelling via taxi from JFK."
