Iceland's new pasta range sparks debate after some shoppers call it 'lazy'

Iceland's latest new frozen items have sparked a debate on social media after some shoppers slammed it for being 'lazy'.

Popular money saving Facebook group Extreme Coupons and Bargaining UK shared that Iceland are now stocking Beroni, frozen pasta, that can be cooked in just 30 seconds.

The post gathered many comments praising it while others hit back and over 400 people commented as a fresh debate sparked over the new freezer food. The 1kg bags are available for £2.50.

One replied: "How busy do you have to be to not have the 10 minutes available to cook pasta?"

Another echoed: "How lazy can you get?"

"I’d rather pay like 29p for a bag of cheap pasta and stand by the hob and boil it myself…microwave pasta," another hit back.

But these were quickly met with backlash as other shoppers defended the pasta, calling the comments 'ignorant'. In a time when so many of us are watching how much energy we spend, Iceland shoppers pointed out how much cheaper it would be to cook something for just 30 seconds, rather than 10-20 minutes.

One wrote: "Good for if you do long shifts at work and only have a microwave to use."

A second added: "This is such a good idea for young teens coming home from school who are hungry but whose parents don't want them cooking or using the hob till they get home from work. This also helps elderly people who may not be able to use a hob anymore for safety reason, including burns. Some of you are not thinking outside the box."

"I’m a support worker and this is a fantastic idea. I support people who are unable to stand at the hot hob and this gives them the opportunity to be more involved in cooking their own meals. It’s not always black and white - just because you can do something, doesn’t mean everybody else can," a third agreed.

And a fourth echoed: "it’s not just about time. It’s about energy too. My daughter has chronic fatigue and this could make all the difference to her at uni, being able to quickly assemble a meal when everything takes so much effort and it’s a challenge to even eat a meal sometimes due to exhaustion. There are likely many other people who would find this product a life saver."
