Iceland shoppers have been urged to check their freezers for a long-lasting dessert that was sold in shops with the wrong packaging. The supermarket has issued a product recall for the Mars Dessert Bar, advising in a public notice: "If you have purchased the product, DO NOT eat it."
A certain batch of the 600g product, which is a take on Mars chocolate, might instead contain the Snickers version of the dessert bar. Iceland said the product recall was a precautionary measure due to the 'mis-pack', due undeclared allergens that could be a risk to people with dietary restrictions.
Only bars with a best-before date of February 23, 2024 are affected and given the long date range, shoppers are advised to check now before they forget about it. The recall alert from the Food Standards Agency, published yesterday (December 30), states: "It may contain peanuts and egg, which are not mentioned on the label.

"As a result of a packaging error, some packs have been incorrectly packed with Snickers Dessert Bar. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg.
"If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For further details or if you have any questions, you can contact the customer care team on 0800 328 0800."
The date code can be found on the side of the box, Iceland said. Anyone who finds they have purchased the dessert can take it back to store to get a full refund, with no receipt required.
The dessert is listed as exclusive to Iceland on its website, retailing at £8 with some enthusiastic reviews in the comments section. One shopper wrote in a review on December 15: "I have been waiting for this product to launch! What a great product! Love the thick layer of chocolate and the caramel is amazing tastes just like a Mars bar yum."
Others complained it was "sickly" but another disagreed: "Absolutely love! best dessert I have had! Perfect amount of caramel and mousse."
