Iceland has announced that pensioners all across the country will be able to get a £30 voucher towards their groceries amidst soaring food costs.
The frozen foods supermarket chain has joined forces with The Rothesay Foundation to launch their new 'Summer Cheer' campaign which will be available until September 16.
It will see thousands of pensioners who rely solely on state pensions, living independently or with a carer, eligible for a £30 voucher that can be used towards "food and other essentials." The campaign will also provide copies of Age UK's financial advice information guide, reports Wales Online.
News of the new voucher comes just after Iceland also launched another scheme for anyone over the age of 60 earlier this year. In May, they became the first supermarket chain to offer anyone over the age of 60 a 10% discount that applies to every Tuesday.
Anyone who is eligible for the new Summer Cheer voucher scheme can combine the £30 voucher with the 10% discount on Tuesday to make their shopping bills that bit more affordable.
The voucher can be spent in any of Iceland's 296 stores across in 17 areas across the country.
Iceland said the locations were identified as the places where there are some of the highest numbers of pensioners living in material deprivation in the country. Richard Walker, managing director of Iceland Foods, said: "Since the launch of the partnership last Christmas, the cost of living crisis has taken hold of the UK, and now more than ever, people are struggling to access the food they need.
"No one should ever have to worry about how they are going to eat or drink, and we hope that the support we can offer across the UK will help pensioners access and enjoy a worry free meal during this time." To find your local Iceland store, click here.
