Iceland closing all stores on Boxing Day to give staff a 'well earned' break

Iceland and The Food Warehouse stores across the UK will be closed on Boxing Day in a move to allow their staff members a "well-earned break."

The frozen foods supermarket's boss took to social media recently to confirm stores will be remaining closed on what is expected to be one of the busiest festive periods ever. Most supermarkets and retailers used to remain open at different hours on Boxing Day to allow customers to pick up some essentials after the festivities.

However, the supermarket giant's boss, Richard Walker, has taken to Twitter to confirm that all stores will be closed on December 26 this year to allow staff members to spend time with their loved ones.

This is not the first time the retailer has closed on Boxing Day, after they also remained closed last year so that staff would get the day off to spend with family.

Taking to Twitter, Walker said: "We’ll be closing all our Iceland and Food Warehouse stores on Boxing Day, to give our colleagues a well-earned rest with their friends & families."

And Iceland is not the only store that has announced Boxing Day closures, as Home Bargains also recently announced they would be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year.

It comes after a flock of supermarkets and retailers began closing their doors over the festive period last year to allow staff a well earned break after over a year in lockdown.

Morrisons, M&S, Sainsbury's, and Aldi made the decision to remained closed on December 26 last year.

Retailers such as B&M, Home Bargains and Wilko all shut their stores as well so that their staff members could enjoy the festive season.
