Palestinian politicians have expressed satisfaction over the recent decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The warrants are in relation to alleged war crimes committed in Gaza, a region that has seen significant conflict and casualties.
Mustafa Barghouti, an independent Palestinian politician, praised the ICC's actions as a crucial step towards accountability and justice for the victims of Israel's violations. The court released arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, accusing them of war crimes in Gaza, where the Ministry of Health reports over 44,000 Palestinian fatalities since Israel's campaign began.
Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Kingdom, emphasized the importance of all parties adhering to the ICC measures. While the court itself cannot enforce arrests, signatory states are obligated to apprehend individuals facing warrants. Zomlot highlighted that the arrest warrants signify progress towards accountability and justice in Palestine, as well as a restoration of credibility in the international judicial system.
Despite the positive reactions from Palestinian officials, there has been no response yet from the Palestinian Authority regarding the ICC's decision. The warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant mark a significant development in the ongoing efforts to address alleged war crimes and seek justice for the victims in Gaza.
