Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, emphasized that the rulings of the International Criminal Court (ICC) are not politically motivated and must be adhered to. This statement follows the issuance of arrest warrants by the ICC for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, sparking strong reactions from the Israeli government.
Borrell made these remarks during a news conference at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Amman. He stressed the importance of respecting and implementing the ICC’s decisions, regardless of political implications. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi echoed Borrell’s sentiments, emphasizing that the international community should not selectively accept or reject ICC rulings based on individual cases.
Al-Safadi called on the global community to interpret the ICC’s decision as a call to action to prevent further violence in Gaza and ensure the delivery of essential aid to the region. The arrest warrants issued by the ICC have reignited debates surrounding international justice and accountability for actions in conflict zones.
