Ibrahima Konate 'disappears' claim made as story of Joel Matip's Liverpool rise told

Your Liverpool morning headlines for Tuesday, March 22.

'He disappears' - Ibrahima Konate sent harsh Liverpool message after two performances

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has delivered a harsh verdict on Ibrahima Konate and says he 'disappears at times'.

The 22-year-old returned to the starting line-up on Sunday as the Reds beat Championship opposition Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Diogo Jota's 78th-minute strike was enough to book them a spot in the next round of the competition.

Liverpool now face a difficult semi-final clash at Wembley against Premier League title rivals Manchester City in April.

One pivotal figure who helped mould Matip into the person he is today is long-standing Schalke under-19 manager, Norbert Elgert.

The further you go in a competition the bigger the teams you get.

With all due respect, there’s only three top teams in the league. Arsenal are getting better and Tottenham are a little too, but those top three are always going to be the ones to beat.

If we’re all being honest they all would have wanted Crystal Palace, even though they’re not mugs, but Liverpool got a favourable draw in the Champions League with Benfica.

Do you think Man City wanted to draw Liverpool? No way.

They’d rather play Chelsea than Liverpool. Big time. But with the league match as well, they’re two massive games in a week and they’re the ones that you want to play in.
