Ibrahima Konate breaks injury silence as Liverpool handed further headache for Fulham

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has confirmed he will miss the start of the new Premier League season after sustaining an injury during Sunday's 3-0 defeat against Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg.

The Frenchman fell to the ground twice in quick succession during the early stages of the second half and was subsequently substituted by manager Jurgen Klopp, before heading straight down the tunnel. Now the 23-year-old has taken to social media to reveal that he will not be fit for selection for "some time" following the injury.

"Unfortunately, I have to spend some time off the pitch but it won’t be too long," wrote Konate on his Instagram page on Thursday evening.

"In the meantime, I will be doing my best to come back even stronger and support the boys."

Although the extent of Konate's injury is yet to be revealed, speaking immediately after the game the Liverpool manager revealed that the Frenchman's knock did not look "too concerning", telling Liverpoolfc.com: "We don't know exactly yet on Ibou, but it doesn't look too concerning, so I hope we caught it in the right moment."

Liverpool start their Premier League their campaign on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Craven Cottage as they face newly-promoted Fulham. Klopp will be without Calvin Ramsay, Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher and now Konate for the fixture.
