Ianis Hagi urged to quit Rangers for Serie A transfer

Former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan star Adrian Mutu has urged Romanian countryman Ianis Hagi to quit Rangers and move to Genoa.

The Ibrox playmaker has been linked in Italy with a move to Genoa, who are now owned by Romanian businessman Dan Sucu.

And Mutu - who also played for Fiorentina, Verona, Parma, Livorno and Cesena in Italy - has encouraged Hagi to return to Serie A, having previously had a spell at Fiorentina as a kid.

Mutu said: "I believe Ianis Hagi would quickly establish himself at Genoa if he agreed on his personal terms and they could reach a transfer fee deal with Rangers.

"He has the qualities needed to play at that level - I think he just needs to raise his confidence levels.

"Ianis went straight to Serie A after making his debut in League 1 at Farul. Of course, he also knows Italian.

"He knows the country so he can adapt quickly.

"Ianis is a valuable player. What does he need? Confidence and continuity in development, I think that's what Ianis needs at the moment."

Mutu was also previously manager of Romanian Under 21s, Rapid Bucharest and Cluj.
