Ianis Hagi Rangers transfer exit latest as bumper price tag puts suitors off deal

Former Barcelona star Gheorghe Popescu has revealed his club in Romania cannot afford unsettled Rangers star Ianis Hagi...even though Farul Constanta are managed by his famous father Gheorghe Hagi.

The Romanian international is facing an uncertain future at Ibrox after expressing his frustration at his limited playing time under manager Michael Beale.

He's already been linked with a string of clubs in Turkey, Belgium and Italy and it's been suggested he could join up with his legendary former Real Madrid and Barcelona dad Gheorghe, who is the manager of Romanian champions Faul Constanta.

Hagi senior was asked about his son's position at Rangers following Farul's Europa Conference League tie against HJK Helsinki this week.

But he refused to be drawn and stated: "Next question please, next question."

But the club's president Popescu, who is the brother-in-law of Hagi senior, insisted an emotional return for Hagi junior was unlikely.

He said: "We can't afford Ianis Hagi.

"It would be sensational if we could afford to bring in a player of Ianis' stature, but unfortunately not.

"I am convinced that Ianis will return to the highest level, to a very, very good team. His talent is extraordinary and I am sure that things will go back to normal as soon as possible.

"As far as I know, there have been no offers for him.

"But when he makes his decision about his future, he will pick a club that will be good for him and he will return to his best form again soon."
