Ianis Hagi Rangers omission explained as key 'wage clause revealed'

Ianis Hagi is still training with Rangers B after reportedly being told he is free to leave the club.

The Romanian internationalist is not part of Philippe Clement's plans at Ibrox and has been tipped for a summer exit from Glasgow.

However, it's thought Hagi is keen to remain with Rangers despite being dropped to the B team.

Hagi spent last season on loan at La Liga club Alaves following a period out through injury.

He returned to Rangers this summer but is not expected to feature in Clement's squad.

Now, Sky Sports have revealed a contract clause in Hagi's current Ibrox deal could be playing into Hagi's absence from the first-team.

It's claimed should the midfielder start more matches for Rangers then a clause in his contract would see a wage increase triggered.

Clement responded to rumours Hagi could have his contract ripped up with surprise as the Belgian manager removed himself from discussions on contracts.

"That's a rumour. Not one that I have heard until now," said Clement.

"I am not busy all this time with what amount of money a player is going out or coming in or all those things - that is not my job to do.

"My job is to see what is necessary for the squad, what profiles we need. And there are other people financially making decisions.

"It's not me making that kind of decision."

Hagi netted a hat-trick for Rangers B on Saturday against Derby before posting on Instagram: "Home is good".
